Use Practice Martial Arts Weapons Because They Are Safer

By Sandy Hsu

Have you ever seen those people out in the fields or in the forests who dress up in costumes and swing around big duct taped up weapons and play fighting games? They call them Live Action Role Players but these guys have a really good idea: when you just want to have fun with martial arts weapons use practice martial arts weapons. Practice weapons are safer and you can do a lot more things with them when interacting with others.

There are a ton of good reasons to use practice martial arts weapons before getting into the real thing but most of all I think you should just come to grips with the fact that you aren't skilled enough to use real martial arts weapons. If you're new to martial arts weapons training you've probably watched your master swing around a sword gracefully but trust me, it's harder than it looks. Get a feel for how the weapon is going to move by wielding a practice one first.

The most important thing to take into account when learning to wield martial arts weapons is safety. These are weapons designed to maim and kill so you don't want to be casually swinging them about the living room or gymnasium. You might poke someone's eyes out! A practice martial arts weapon is nerfed so you don't accidentally hurt somebody when you're practicing. Plus, you won't be able to hurt yourself either.

Safety is one thing but if you're a real martial artist you're probably interested in upping the ante and developing your skills right? Well get this: if you build a practice martial arts weapons that is a lot heavier than the real thing you will be able to strengthen your muscles while you practice. That way when you actually do finally get into training with the real martial arts weapon you will be stronger and be able to wield it with ease.

We're all in this thing to have fun aren't we? And what's more fun than beating your best friend over the head with a giant bo staff or katana sword? I can't think of anything. But if you use the actual martial arts weapon to do that you are going to seriously hurt someone, hell you could even kill someone. Pick up some safe practice martial arts weapons that are properly padded and then go to town and spar with your peers.

Martial arts weapons training is difficult but it can also be a lot of fun if you take it seriously and really put effort into learning the craft. Practice martial arts weapons will help you to learn the techniques without getting injured and there's really nothing more you can ask for.
