Holidays To Alcudia Are Unforgettable

By Geoff Danvers

One of the most popular tourist attractions in the Mediterranean Sea is Alcudia on the island of Majorca in the Balearic archipelago. The Balearic Islands, officially a province of Spain, are an archipelago in the western Mediterranean due east of the Iberian Peninsula (i.e., Spain and Portugal).

The Balearic Islands are an off shore province of Spain. The archipelago has four large islands. In addition to Majorca there are Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Cruising around the Balearic Islands is not on the map for large cruise ships because the waters are so shallow. But outings on smaller cruise ships are popular. These day cruises can be booked from Alcudia. Palma, the provincial capita, is an hour drive from Alcudia and has a beautiful, modern airport. Cruising from Palma to Alcudia is an excellent start to holidays to Alcudia.

The beauty of the Alcudian seaside is the stuff of postcards and tourist brochures: off white sand stretching for kilometers, luxurious tourist resorts hugging the beaches; coves further up the coast where rented small watercraft dot the waters, you diving off one into the sea to do a little swimming and snorkeling. It's like a beer commercial come to life. In the opinion of many, the Balearic Islands are the rival in every way of the Greek Islands for rugged beauty. And everybody seems friendlier and more relaxed.

Further north along the Alcudia coast are the coves the Balearic Islands are justly famous for, many only accessible by boat. These are perfect for snorkeling and sunbathing. Sometimes you have an entire cove all to yourself.

There is the S'Albufera nature preserve, popular with walkers and birders, a massive beach-side water park and the Hotel Bellevue, reputedly Europe's largest resort complex. The sea is shallow and warm. Bars and restaurant complexes dot the beaches all along the way. Bicycles, scooters and watercraft are available for rent. Parasailing operations are very popular. The sea is shallow and calm, making holidays to Alcudia suitable for even small children.
